  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Across cultures in the context of shops

Subsidiary Aims

  • To assess the students's vocabulary resource for talking about facilities in a city , and to add some items to this .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Ss a picture T asks Ss to work in pairs and tell each other what they see in the picture . T asks CCQs Are you going to talk or write ? SS (talk ) T sits time limit (A minute ) and ask Ss to work very quickly . T gives one picture to each pair . Ss work T monitors T shows a picture to and elicit what city is this ? (Istanbul ) what time is it in the picture ? ( 2 in the morning ) in this time what is open and what is closed ? what can I see in Istanbul at 2 in the morning . Open class discussion .

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T shows SS a text about Across culture shops . Can you see the the Title (Across culture ) T clarify the word , Drill it and then write it culture /ˈkʌltʃə(r)/ T elicit the word Holiday T asks do you work at Sunday ? Ss (no) T asks why Ss ( it's a Holiday ) T drills and writes the word T tells Ss read and answer one question T writs the question on the board (Where you can go shopping at night ?) T reminds Ss that they only minute to answer but T actually gives two minutes for this task T ask ICCQs How many minutes do you have ? Ss ( A minute ) T gives the handouts Ss work T monitors and stops the activity when most Ss finish. T asks Ss to pair check T does open class feedback

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T asks SS to look at the question under the text T asks Ss ho many question are there ? Ss (6 questions ) you only need to write the country name . in the answers you can have one two or three countries . T elicits the counties are .....Ss ( Greece , Egypt , Japan ) T sits time limit for the task . T gives Ss 3 minutes to do the task. T monitors to make sure Ss are doing the right task help Ss if necessary decide when Ss should finish or whether to give extra time Ss finish T puts Ss into two groups (A and B ) (group A has Serhan and group has Erdougan ) T sits 1 minute for checking answers Ss check answers T does quick open class feedback .

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
