Description

In this lesson, students practice reading short texts and they will be sensitized to ways of life in different countries and cultures. Also, they listen to the alphabet and some words as well and try to write down the letters of the words they hear.

Materials

Abc Ex.1a & 2a (page 20) Unlimited English
Abc Reading passage / Unlimited English

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about families and children in the context of family

Subsidiary Aims

  • Listening to and pronouncing the letters of the alphabet.

Procedure

Greeting (3-4 minutes) • To build up rapport

Using the projector, T shows Ss a photo about his family and let them guess who is in the photo. Then, T asks Ss about their names.

Lead-in (2-5 minutes) • To engage Ss with the topic

-T will ask Ss questions like "what's you surname?/ what " and having Ss say the answer using correct spelling. - T asks some students to say the alphabet by order.

Listening for practice (9-12 minutes) • Students listen to recordings focusing on letters.

-Ss listen to recording 1.43 (page;20) and practice saying the alphabet. -Ss listen to recording 1.44 (page;20) and write the letters they hear and then they will be asked to say what letters they wrote.

Pre-teaching Vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning of some words in the text

- T pre-teaches the four new vocabulary from the text ( large, couples, village, many) by showing some pictures on the board and ask Ss guess the right words. - T helps Ss to know the words, if they do not know. And, after writing each word on the board, T asks them to pronounce it and try to put it in a sentence, - T explains the meaning of "many, most, some" to Ss by drawing 8 circles on the board.

Reading comprehension (10-12 minutes) • Reading for specific information

-T asks Ss to read the texts individually, then, in pairs, choose the correct answer. - T asks Ss to read the texts again and say which sentences are true. - T asks Ss to be in groups of 3 or 4 and complete the two sentences about there city(s) or town(s).
