Procedure

Warmer (2-3 minutes) • Establish that we will talk about family

After saying "Hello everyone" ,I introduce myself to students mentioning my name and my family members' names using a table similar to the one in EX1B.

Family vocabulary presentation (9-11 minutes) • Present family vocabulary

Page 15 / EX 1A T asks students to look at the photos and elicits answers before playing recording # 1.30 for the students to check their answers. Check meaning by simple questions, e.g. -I have a son,is that a boy or a girl? How about you? Who has a son? What's his name? -I have a wife,Dina. She's my wife.I'm her husband. EX 1B T draws the table on the middle of the board clarifying the gender in a bigger scale then asks students to write the words in the table. T Plays recording #1.31, SS practise saying the words. T focuses on the pronunciation. Note the silent letters in daughter, the vowel sound in mother, son&husband is the same. The "th" how to produce it.

His/Her (8-11 minutes) • Controlled practice of the two adjectives.

P 15 EX 2A T reads the 2 sentences and asks Ss to choose his or her. If necessary give few more examples by asking questions about things belong to students. Give handouts to SS for controlled practice that shows the connection of he/she & his/her. Draw a family tree and elicit the family words quickly using a previous example then encourage the students to draw small family trees.

They are (7-10 minutes) • Introduce they are

(Books closed)T shows a picture of a famous couple and asks (Are they brother and sister? Are they friends?) then writes on the board ........... husband and wife. P15 EX3A T asks students to match. T tries to simplify the instruction word "match" as much as possible as it's mostly new to them. P15 Ex3B T plays recording #1.32 Focus on pronunciation of the short form of They're. P15 EX4 T asks students to go to page 87 (better to write the page number on WB) and instruct them to do the speaking exercise. T might need to model the exercise with a strong student for better instructions understanding.

Work vocabulary (7-10 minutes) • What do people do? Where do they work?

T asks students "What's my job?" They answer "you're a teacher" I praise them and say " I'm a teacher"/ " I work in a school" "I work for ITI" T elicits students' jobs. and present the word company using famous Turkish companies e.g. Tüpraş & Arçelik. Work in / Work for To best present them , ask " Do you work in a cafe?" "Do you work for Starbucks?" a/an before jobs write two sentences on WB "I'm a teacher" and" I'm teacher" and cross the second out. Listening T writes What's...............? and What...............? on the WB play recording #1.35 and ask students to complete the questions. Ss practice conversation in pairs.
