Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Joe___it to his wife. Ask Ss to think of as many PS verbs that will fit in there and say what 'it' is in each case Give possible 'it''s to jig the imagination. Jo lent it to his wife (his motorbike) Jo delivered it to his wife (the bad news) Jo recommended it to his wife (the film) Jo sent/emailed it to his wife (the YouTube clip) Jo passed it to his wife (the salt) Jo threw it to his wife (the rugby ball) Jo stuck it to his wife (the chewing gum) Jo sang it to his wife (the love song) Jo showed it to his wife (the rash on his bottom) Jo mentioned it to his wife (the fact that they needed a holiday) Jo returned it to his wife (his wife’s dress) Jo suggested it to his wife (a holiday to France) Jo explained it to his wife (the plot)

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Say you have a puzzle, Read it out at normal speed and have S take notes, Ask do they know what ''it'' is. Ask if they want to hear it again. (probably yes) Read it slightly slower this time. Tell them to take down as much information as they can. Show the flow diagram to the S (not for very long) Tell them to recreate the text they heard through a diagram Make sure S knows it's an illustration of the text Put diagram out of sight. When finished- Let S check own work. Ask. any idea about what it is. Play the video 0:30 to the end Take away the text and ask S to reconstruct the flow chart from memory Let S check own work by by playing the video

Highlighting (6-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask S to pick out all the PS verbs. Ask whether regular or irregular.- All irregular Ask why? What is a regular verb? And how is it formed? (Return to verbs from brainstorm in stage 1) Ask S to write the Correct together Ps of 'be'

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Focus S on the pronunciation of the PS verbs ''called''(/d/) ''looked'' (/t/) ''ended'' (/ıd/) Have S listen to the pronunciation of these pairs of words and mark 'S' if same and 'D' if their different. (a) worked watched S (b) opened invented D (c) asked stopped S (d) travelled started D (e) lived closed S (f) walked wanted D (g) laughed arrived D /ıd/ -regular verbs that end in 't' (lasted) or 'd' (ended) Easier to hear because it's an extra syllable *Activity* Play small ball game- Say infinitive and S answers with the PS and vice versa.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

*Activity* Have S and you write one sentence about each of the following: 3 statements should be true and 2 should be false *something you did last year *a place you went last year *something you bought last week/month *something you liked when you were a child *something you ate yesterday read the sentences out loud and decide which sentences are true and which are false Give fb and correct if necessary

Was+ subject...? Were+ subject...? Negative PS regular verbs Put this sentence in the negative. ''I watch television often" = "I don't watch television often" ''I watched television yesterday." = "I didn't watch television yesterday" Subject + did not (didn't)+ verb infinitive *'did' for all persons EXCEPT for 'be' Question PS verbs "Did I watch television yesterday?"
