A1-Elementary level

Description

In this lesson, the students will practice making predictions by using " will, might, won't." The lesson will be started by a clip. After the clip, ss will be asked as "can you predict what the lesson is about ?" After that, the necessary vocabulary will be elicited via "realia" . The lesson will be followed by controlled and freer speaking activities. Lastly, if time allows, SS will correct their own mistakes.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice about a plane crash in a conversation and discussions in the context of survival

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of objects to survive such as a bottle of water, chocolate, a box of matches, knife...etc in the context of survival

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1-SS will watch a clip about a plane crash and then asked " What did you see in the clip? What happened? 2-Elicit "plane crash". 3-Then SS will be given 'Discussion HO1' and discuss in pairs below questions. *What happened to the plane ?Why did it crash? *How are the people from plane feeling? *What problems might they have ? 4-Monitor and support as needed.

Pre-Teach Vocabulary (7-9 minutes) • To provide necessary vocabulary for speaking tasks

- Elicit the needed vocabulary via realia - The vocabulary : plane crash, chocolate, radio, mobile phone, knife, playing cards ..etc -Concept check, (e.g can we carry mobile phones everywhere?yes) -Elicit the stress, -Drill, -Elicit parts of speech from SS, -Write the words on the board.

Useful Language (Optional) (3-4 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks.

1-SS will be shown some sentences and asked if they are correct or not.(Project ( 5th Slide) If they are not correct, they will give reasons. a)People will working longer hours in the future./W b)It might rains today./W c)Alice might come tomorrow./C d)-In the year 2050, everyone will speak at least three languages./W e)-I think she might pass the exam./C 2-SS will work in pairs.(give 2 min.) 3-Once they finish, the mistakes will be corrected by the students.

Controlled Speaking Practice #1 (7-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1-Regroup SS. (They will stand up and take one card either chocolate or water ) 2-SS will be given HO 3-Give instructions as " Choose three objects from the box that might help the people from the plane.Give reasons. Why?" Give an example "I think chocolate is useful because they might get hungry." 4-Remind SS to use " might, will , won't " (TL) 5-After they finish ,The groups will have a discussion about their choices. 6-Now, SS will think of three other objects that might be useful. 6-Monitor and help as needed. 7-Nominate one S from each group to share the ideas. 8-Correct the mistakes on the spot. 9-The Answer Key will be given as a HO.

Controlled Speaking Practice # 2 (7-9 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1-SS will be given following task. 2-People always talk about survival in the jungle, at sea,etc, but I will tell you a really dangerous place : the city! What are your tips for survival? 3-Give instructions, SS will work in pairs. 4-Nominate SS to share their ideas. 5-Monitor and help as needed. 6-The Answer Key will be projected on the board.

Freer Speaking Practice # 1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with freer practice of the target language

1-SS will write a sentence on a piece of paper about their weekend plans/predictions . 2-Remind SS that they will use the target language "will / won't / might" 3-They won't write their names.. e.g I might go shopping on Saturday. 4-They'll fold the paper and put into the container. 5- SS randomly pick one of the papers and read the sentence out. The related student will answer yes or no. 6-Monitor and help as needed.

Delayed feedback and error correction (4-5 minutes) • To encourage SS to correct their own mistakes

1-While concluding the lesson, if time allows, I will write on the board the correct sentences and the mistakes I've heard. 2-SS will correct their own mistakes.
