Description

In this lesson, Ss will practise their receptive skills through a reading text. The lesson will start with a short lead-in, the Ss will watch a video. Then, T will re-teach vocabulary that will be used in the reading tasks. The Ss will practise reading for gist and detailed through tasks. Finally, the Ss will practise on their productive skills by a follow-up speaking activity. The lesson will end with a delayed error correction stage.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about citybikes in the context of transportation.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of advantages and disadvantages of citybikes.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T will project a short video on citybikes. - T will ask Ss students what this lesson is about

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T will project visuals on the board - T will try to elicit the vocabulary - T will ask CCQs - T will drill thw words - T will write the words on the board and try to elicit the part of speech and the stress - T will give Vocabulary HO to the Ss

Pre-Reading #2 (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T will project a picture of Velib - T will give instructions - T will ask Ss to work in pairs - T will give Ss the HOs - T will monitor to see who wrote an accurate question - T will nominate Ss who wrote accurate questions

While-Reading #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks.

- T will give instructions - T will give the reading HO to the Ss - T will get wholeclass feedback

While-Reading #2 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading tasks.

- T will give instructions - T will ask Ss to work alone - T will ask Ss to pair check - T will monitor to see if they all got the right answers - If not, T will project the answer key on the board

Post-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- T will regroup Ss - T will ask students to discuss about citybikes - T will monitor to find errors - T will regroup Ss to enable more interaction patterns - Ss will discuss - T will monitor

Delayed error correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide accuracy.

- T will write good sentences on the board - T will write errored sentences on the board - T will try to elicit the errors - T will correct the sentences
