Description

In this lesson, the students will learn comparatives. They will use the adjectives they have learned in the previous lesson. The lesson will start with a short leading in which students will try to compare the city they live in with a bigger city. Then T will project some pictures and try to elicit comparatives. Then, T will elicit the form from the Ss. T will give a few handouts with activities in them for Ss to practise on what they have learned. Finally, Ss will practise on their productive skills by practising speaking using the new language.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T will project the pictures of İstanbul and İzmir on the board - T will ask the Ss where they are from - T will elicit the word 'compare' from the Ss - T will ask Ss to compate these cities with using the adjectives they have learned in the previous lesson - T will get wholeclass feedback - T will write the comparatives she heard on the board

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a situation

- T will project the weather conditions on the board - T will try to elicit the words 'hotter' and 'colder' - T will try to elicit the usage of 'than' - T will ask students what they prefer for their holidays

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T will project pictures on the board - T will try to elicit the comparatives - T will write the comparatives on the board

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- T will ask CCQs to check on the meaning - T will try to elicit the form from the Ss through a form-gap-fill HO - T will ask Ss to pair check - T will get wholeclass feedback - T will drill to work on the pronunciation

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T will give instructions - T will ask students to work in pairs - T will ask ICQs - T will give HOs - T will ask the students to pair check

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- T will give instructions - T will ask Ss to work in pairs - T will ask ICQs - T will give Hos - T will get wholeclass feedback - T will ask Ss to come to board to correct the senteces

Free Practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T will regroup Ss - T will give instructions - T will ask Ss to compare two holiday destinations with using the comparatives - T will monitor and find errors

Delayed error correction (2-3 minutes) • To provide correct form and usage for the Ss.

- T will write the good sentences on the board. - T will write sentences with an error on the board - T will try to elicit the error and make students correct it
