Description

This lesson is a product writing lesson where students will design a holiday for me. Students will interview me on on what I like doing and then create an itinerary of my holiday. They will present the holiday to the class and pitch it to me. I will choose the holiday I would most like to go on.

Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a itinerary in the context of holidays

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a taking notes in the context of an interview about what someone likes to do.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a asking questions and presenting written work in the context of a travel itinerary

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Picture of Ireland on OHP Ask ''What do you know about it?'' "Would you like to visit here?" Show Sample itinerary.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Give gist task. Match the pictures to the paragraphs. Note the layout. How is it divided, Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 Note the layout of the text. What information is given? Place, Activities, Things to see, Food, Statement. Note the tense of the text. Ask students to underline the future forms. Peercheck

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Tell students you want them to create 4 day trip for you. Form groups of 4. Each person writes about one day. Decorate and make it look good. 3 minutes to decide on the places, activities, things to see, food ect Check that each group is on track

Productive Task(s) (15-17 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Start the task and set up materials Monitor discreetly so not to interrupt the flow of writing. Offer assistance to anyone who seems lost or stuck for ideas. Give 5 minute time warning so that Ss have time to finish up.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

When finished have all groups stick their poster to the board. Invite everyone to look and explain their trip to each other. Have Ss vote on the best trip.
