Main Aims

  • To provide reading for gist and detailsby reading two short texts from the book "The Chocolate Maker & The Student CEO"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide an opportunity to the students to speak by using the vocabulary they learn from the text.

Procedure

Lead in (5-10 minutes) • Set the context

The teacher will ask the students the following questions about text (1 - The Chocolate Maker) to get them interested in the topic: * What is an entrepreneur? * What can entrepreneur do well? * Can young people be successful entrepreneurs? * Who can help them to be successful?

Language focus (7-10 minutes) • Introduce new vocabulary in text (1)

-Give the students the following words to elicit the meanings by asking the students some CCQs and write the words on the board after they give the meanings: dyslexic, interested in, hobby, product, luxury, marketing, united, designer. Get the students feedback (give the students the meaning of the words they don't know).

Introduce Louis Barnett and Yahya Stapic (10-12 minutes) • To make predictions

-Show the students their pictures and tell then we are going to read about them. - Write the following questions on the board, hen ask students to make predictions in pairs and what they predict about them How old are they? Where are they from? What kind of business they have? Was it easy for them at the beginning? Does any one of them have a problem? What made them succeed?

While reading (10-15 minutes) • To give the students practice in reading for gist by working in two groups

- Put the students in two groups and ask each group to read one text. - Ask the students to read for gist by skimming the text and answer the questions on the student's book, unit 6, pg 48.

Post reading (5-10 minutes) • Practice speaking

- Ask the students to answer the questions. - Ask the students to work in pairs to suggest other suitable titles for both texts. - Ask the students to give their opinion about the two persons in the text. - Ask the students to tell a story of some one like Lewis and Yahya.
