Since this lesson is a follow-on from the first lesson, The T will mention 2016 Olympics and will ask the class where the Olympics will be held.

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T will give the Ss a short gap filling exercise about the Olympics. Ss will choose the best past tense with their partners and T will elicit the correct answers. According to the answers, T will gauge how much teaching will need to be done in the next stage.

Pre-teaching: Reading two real stories of Worlds Apart and Two Lauras (8-10 minutes) • To engage students think about the Past Perfect

First, students will be given one of the reading passages. Half of the class will read Two Lauras first whereas the other half will read World Apart. The teacher will write two missing sentences on the board. Ss will choose the correct sentence for their reading and put the sentence in the right place in the passage. Then they will be provided with both of the passages and check their answers from the handout. After they finish reading, they will do the true false exercise in pairs. The teacher will monitor and elicit the correct answers.

Teach (12-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

After finishing reading part, the teacher will ask Ss to check the grammar part with their partners and complete the sentences in pairs. The teacher will go through the meaning asking CCQs and form of the Past Perfect with the students, highlighting the negative form and contractions. She will draw the timeline on WB as shown in Language Analysis page.

Control Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with control practice of Target Language

Ss will be given a controlled exercise for further practice. In pairs, they will choose which event happened first. The T will monitor and elicit the correct answers.

Test #2 (4-6 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ss will do the same test but this time they will do it alone to see how much they have learned. T will monitor and give necessary FB.

Free practice (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher will give the students three sentences about the problems in sports matches or tournaments and ask Ss what might have happened in those situations. Ss will share their ideas in groups of three. The teacher will monitor and give FB as necessary.
