Description

In this lesson, students will write for the first time in this course. They will write advice using (should and could).

Materials

Abc flash cards for some exercises
Abc sections of the cut-up web page (cut-up)
Abc section 1 of the web page hard and soft copies
Abc PPT of section 1
Abc sections of the Web page (whole copy)

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a web page in the context of health and fitness

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide grammar clarification of (should) for advice and (could) for positive possibility in the context of health and fitness

Procedure

Warm up (10-12 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage the students

Ss will be divided into 2 groups. T will mime dancing and ask student about it. T will award a point to the group that gusses first. Ask a student to come to the front, and to mime or draw on the board the activity he/she see written on the card (there is a picture with the word to help the student who doesn't know the meaning) (cycling, jogging, ice-skating, skateboarding, weit-lifting, walking a dog) T elicits: Are these activities important? Yes Why? to keep us fit T writes on the board " There is no gain without pain" Discuss in pairs feedback with the whole class

Pre-writing 1 (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the writing and make it accessable

Ss will be divided into 4 groups Each group will have a copy of section 1 of the web page Students work in groups to give some informaton about it and who might visit such web sites Feedback with the whole class. 2 more minutes to work in groups, reread the section and give three mentioned advice Feedback with the whole class. Show the Ss the text on Pwerpoint slide elicit the structure of the section from Ss and mark them on the WB: Statement (Show your kids....) Advice ( You should.......) Positive possibility (You could......)

pre-Writing 2 (5-7 minutes) • To suggest the contents of the writing

Each group will have one copy of the remaining sections of the cut-up Web page Ss work in groups to read the headers of each section and decide as agroup what each might be about. Feedback with the whole class. Students work in pairs to take two of the sections and think of three pieces of advice to include in each. They discuss their answers with their group Feedback with the whole class.

Writing (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with the writing (draft and final copy)

In the same pairs Ss will write in complete sentences on both sections of the Web page. Ss swap with the other pair in their group, read the new sections and check the advice given. T gives each group a whole copy of the Web page and ask them to combine their sections into one Web page. T asks them in this stage to check for accuracy while writing the final copy.

follow-up/ freer practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with an opportunity to expand on what they have learned

Ask Ss to redesign their keep fit page so that it appeals to either 5-10 years olds or 15 years-old.
