Description

I will teach travel lexis in this lesson and sts will have practice their speaking skills. The lesson starts with a picture of Turkish traveler. I will get sts ideas about him and his job. This is followed by other pictures and words which I will elicit and drill the pronunciation. And then, they will speak in pairs about London. That is followed by listening and pronunciation activities. Lastly, they will practice their speaking skills with a role-play activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start by putting a photo of Burak Akkul who makes a travel programme on TV2, called "Cok Gezinti". In this photo, I will try to get sts to talk about travel and get their attention.

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this part, I will show the photos of each words (they may already know some of them) and elicit the meaning. I will show only photos in the last two slides and ask sts to remember the words. I wil write them on the WB as they are saying. I will focus on pronunciation while I am writing.

Semi-controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will explain "What does ..... mean and It means..." phrases. I think sts need to know how to say if they don`t understand a word.Then, I will show the photo of London and ask them: "if they go to London what do they take, and you only take five items" I will handout Activity 1 and ask them to work in pairs and discuss together. I will put the useful phrases for discussion on WB. I will drill four more words for a rainy London day.

Listening for pronuncation (5-7 minutes) • To check their pronuncation

I will focus on pronunciation by listening two exercises and see if there is any problem. I will correct them if necessary.

Production (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will divide sts in A and B`s and hand out the last activity. In this activity, they will act out the role play, practice words and produce meaningful conversation. I ask them to stand up and talk with their partner. I will put some phrases on WB to assist sts if they need to make sentences. After stopping the activity I will choose one pair and listen them when they talk. I will monitor them and correct their mistakes while they are talking.
