Description

In this lesson students will provide clarification and review of language used for giving advice and suggestions in the context of road rage.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of language used for giving advice and suggestions in the context of road rage

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a functional language in the context of giving advice and suggestions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

* Short story about a problem - I need to buy a car...should I buy a car in Istanbul?. * The Ss will come up with some solutions to my problem.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

* The students will view a series of road rage images of (Courtesy of Google Images) * Talk about road rage and some solutions to road rage in Istanbul. * Posible reasons like traffic, lousy drivers, traffic, parking...and did I mention traffic?

Useful Language (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

* Controlled activity 1 * The Ss will listen to recording 84. * Ss will complete sections 1 (pick the correct two answers) and 2 (match the advice/suggestions with the verb and noun) from the 'advice & suggestions' from Inside Out (p.115)

Productive Task(s) (13-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

* Semi-controlled activity 2. * Form the students into two groups of 4-5 (depending on the number). * Hand out bits of paper with 'problems' and 'advice/suggestions' to each student. * The student with the problem will vocalise their 'problem' and seek a piece of advice or a suggestion from the other Ss, who will offer advice or suggestion by using the modals written on their piece of paper.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

* Ss will come up with their 'problems' and 'advice/suggestions' * FB with WC
