Description

In this lesson, students will talk about their feelings towards their homes. Then they will listen to 3 conversations and do some practice to improve their listening skill.

Abc visuals of the vocabulary
Abc pictures of the three famous homes
Abc T/F sentences
Abc Audio CD track 2.41, 2.42, 2.43
Abc Gap filling exercise for home and house
Abc Matching exercise
Abc Half crossword (A&B)

Main Aims

  • To provise gist and specific informaion listening practice in the context of homes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the context of homes

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage the students

Home is where the heart is Home is where happy memories are Home is where your hopes are Home is where you hang your hat Ss see these sentences on the board and they are asked to express their opinions and feelings towards their homes T-S feedback T refers to the /h/ sound in home /həʊm/

pre-teach Vocabulary (7-10 minutes) • To help students complete the tasks of the coming listening practice

Elicit the difference between Home and House Gap filling exercise to practice and the feedback is on the whitboard T shows Ss visuals for the words, elicits, models, concept checks, drills and then writes them on the board with stress mark, part of speech and pronunciation difficulties. In case, Ss need more focus on vocab and the teacher sees they need more help to get them, a matching exercise will help at this moment.

Pre-Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible

Visuals for the the three famoues homes in the coursebooks on the board T elicits their names then Ss will predict in pairs where are they, who do they think lived their. Feedback: T will elicit a few ideas about each home.

Listening for Gist (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening

Ss listen to the recording and check their predictions from the previous stage. Feedback: Check in pairs, and whole-class elicit

Detailed Listening (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening

T hands out sentences. Ss listen and decide wether they are true or false. Check in pairs (T can play a second time, if neccessary).

Post-Listening/ Freer Speaker (6-8 minutes) • To provide Ss with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will sit in groups of 4 to discuss about famous homes in their country. Where are they? who lived there? Task feedback: elicit some ideas from groups. If students are not able to give examples, I can mention some names such as Dolmabahge Sarayi/ Topkapi palace

If-Time Activity (5-7 minutes) • To provide accurate and fluent speaking

It is an information gap T gives half crossword activity (A) to half of the Ss ad the other half will take (B) A will use his language to help B find out the missing word and vice versa Feedback with the whole class
