Description

In this lesson, the students will learn about the dates. The lesson will start with a quick lead-in, projecting a picture of a calendar, to elicit the word "date" from the students. The lesson will continue with drilling the ordinal numbers. Ss will complete a matching activity about the ordinals, then will be given cut-ups of months to put in the correct order. T will drill months and focus on the stress. The lesson will continue with reading the years. Finally, Ss will complete a follow-up speaking activity that includes the new words they have learned.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T will project a photo of a calendar - T will try to elicit the words 'date', 'month', 'year' from the Ss

Vocabulary (2-3 minutes) • To elicit the first three ordinal numbers

Vocabulary #2 (4-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify new vocabulary that is used in the next tasks.

- T will project a powerpoint presentation in which the ordinal numbers are written - T will drill chorally and individually - T will focus on troublesome sounds

Task (6-8 minutes) • To practise on what they have learned in the former stage.

- T will give instructions - T will ask ICQs. "Are we going to work alone or in pairs?" - T will give HOs - T will monitor during the activity - T ask Ss to check their answers in pairs

Vocabulary#3 + Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide correct pronunciation and intonation for the Ss.

- T will try to elicit the current month - T will regroup students - T will give instructions - T will give cut-ups - T will then project the months in order and drill chorally and individually

Vocabulary#4 (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify the form of the vocabulary.

- T will project a date on the board - T will try to elicit how to read the date

Speaking (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills.

- T will give instructions for the speaking activity to get the students to ask each other their birthday by asking "When were you born?" - T will ask Ss to form a line accordingly - T will monitor to find errors

Freer Speaking (optional) (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language.

- T will pair Ss - T will give instructions - T will give Ss the HO - T will monitor to find mistakes - WC FB

Error Correction (5-8 minutes) • To provide correct form and usage for the Ss.

- T will write good sentences she heard from the speaking activities to the board - T will write mistake and try to elicit what is the mistake from the Ss
