Next, I will use visuals to elicit lexis for meals and ask sts to complete a HO using food words. Then, sts will do a HO to form questions using meal lexis. Next, sts will practice asking each other questions in PW from HO using meal lexis. After that, sts will practice reading for details in a gap-fill survey. Next, sts will practice listening for details to check their answers on the gap-fill survey. After that I will HO script for survey and sts will practice reading & listening for detail in PW matching answers from listening script to survey. Next, sts will review time expressions as WC. After that, sts will complete verbs HO on family & sleeping habits. Next, sts will ask each other questions from verb HO on family & sleeping habits in PW. Finally, sts will finish lesson with a FSW mingle activity to practice using present simple + how often + time expressions.

Procedure

Lead-In (3-3 minutes) • Give sts review on lexis for food.

WC. I will chest large flashcards with pictures of food on them to elicit food lexis. Flip through all flashcards with class, modeling and drilling throughout. Put pictures up on the WB and once all pictures are up, go back through and elicit spelling and re-drill/address error corrections or questions as needed. Highlight stress and form as needed (eg. fruit, ice cream, vegetables).

Lexis for Meals (2-3 minutes) • Set the context for eating habits.

WC. I will use more visuals to elicit the lexis related to meals. Ask WC to put Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner in order (which one comes first in the day). Mention brunch, supper and dessert in this section also. Refer to flashcard visuals on WB of food lexis and ask WC which ones they think people eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner. *Pre-teach Vegetarian. Refer to picture of meat & elicit. "If someone does not eat this, what do we call them?" Refer to picture of vegetables. "They only eat these." --Vegetarian. Model and drill. *Pre-teach Have. "With food and drink we can use the verb have." Write on WB: Have = Eat or Drink. (eg. I have coffee. = I drink coffee., I have fish. = I eat fish.

HO: Gap-Fill, Food Words (3-3 minutes) • Sts practice using food lexis with meal lexis

Chest HO. Instruction: "Work alone. Fill in the blanks in these sentences with food words that are true for you." Model 1st example on WB- "I often have toast for breakfast." ICQ: "What words are you filling in the blanks with?" -Food words. Pass out HO to sts. Give them 2 minutes, then check answers in PW. CQ: "What does your partner usually have for lunch?" --fish/pasta/etc.

HO: Make questions. (3-4 minutes) • Sts use "do you" to make questions with meal lexis

Chest HO. Instruction: "Work alone. Make a question out of each line." Point out the first one is already done for them on the HO- "1. What time / have breakfast? = What time do you have breakfast?". "Write the whole question down on the right side". (Chest HO & point out). ICQ: Chest HO and point to the blank line next to the What time / have breakfast?- "What are you going to write here?" --the whole question. Pass out HO. Give 2 minutes & then "Check answers with your partner."

PW: What/time do you...? (3-4 minutes) • Sts practice using meal lexis by asking questions they just formed in previous activity

Chest HO: Making questions (last exercise). Instruction: "Put your pen down. Speak only to your partner. Practice asking your partner these questions." Point to the first question still chesting the HO & say "For example, if Deniz is my partner, I say Deniz, what time do you have breakfast?" ICQ: "What questions are you asking your partner?" --The ones we made. ICQ2: "Are you writing anything down?" --No. Just speaking. While sts are practicing ?s, write on the WB for CQ: have breakfast, have for breakfast, have lunch, have for lunch, have dinner, have for dinner. CQ: Point to the first prompt "have breakfast" and model the What?/What time? question. Model and drill all the questions from the prompts. Then point to different prompts at random, and ask individuals to repeat.

HO: Eating Habits Survey (2-3 minutes) • Sts fill in the gap (missing words) on the survey

Chest HO. Point out the title while reading it out loud to WC: "Eating Habits Survey". "Do you know what an Eating Habit is?"-- explain if needed-- "If you eat healthy foods every day, you have a healthy eating habit." "Do you know what a survey is?"-- explain if needed-- "OK. Raise your hand if you like baklava. --Hands down.-- I just surveyed our class, and 90% of them like baklava." Assign new PW partners. Instruction to WC: "There are some words missing here. Fill in the blanks with your new partner. We'll listen for answers after." ICQ: "Who are you working with?" --new partner.

HO: Eating Habits Survey Check Answers (1-2 minutes) • Sts practice listening for details to check answers

HO: Eating Habits Survey, The Interview + Tape Script (a-f) (5-6 minutes) • Sts practice reading & listening for details

Chest Tape script HO with (a-f) answers on it. Instruction: "Now we will listen again. Try to match the answers to the questions." Point to #1 and model example. "For example, they will ask "Do you have three meals a day?" and one of these (point to the a-f options) will be the answer to that question on the tape." ICQ: "What answers are you listening for?" --matching survey questions to answers on the tape (interview). Play the tape, but stop after the first one and check 1st answer with WC to make sure they are following. Play the rest of the recording (2.2). Ask sts if they would like to hear again.
