Materials

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of present simple (he, she, it) questions and short answers in the context of job and daily routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of job and daily routines

Procedure

Presentation of grammar, ex.4 (10-14 minutes) • To present the grammar in context

T writes a marker sentence on the board: [Where does Nadine work at the weekend?] and asks for a change of elements to modify the meaning. T draws a table on the board identical to that of ex.4. Elicits answers, gives instructions to the first HO and asks Ss to fill in the gaps in the HO using the two options.

Guided discovery of grammar (6-10 minutes) • To help students figure out the grammatical rules by focusing on form

T asks a yes/no Q from the marker sentence and elicits answers. Then asks Ss to fill in the blanks and check in pairs. Now uses substitution drills to elicit rules for I, you, we, they. Then T instructs Ss to complete the rules and check in pairs.

Focus on pronunciation (6-10 minutes) • To reinforce speaking fluency

T writes the content/stressed words on the board (upper) and plays the recording. Asks if Ss can hear the missing words. Elicits that "does" doesn't get stressed. Ss listen again and ask and answer in pairs.

Production, speaking for further accuracy and fluency (7-10 minutes) • To help students develop fluency with the grammar, while keeping an eye on accuracy mistakes

T gives instructions on how to do an info gap activity. Put the Ss in two groups of As and Bs. Students start working in pairs to ask and answer the questions.
