Description

In this lesson students will learn vocabulary in the context of business. The lesson will start with a short lead in and continue with pre-teaching vocabulary using ECDW. The lesson will continue with reading for gist and continue with a T/F activity to make them read for details. Then students will complete a gap-filling task. The lesson will end with a speaking-aimed discussion activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of business lexis.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about a reality show about businessmen.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- ask Ss what kind of TV programmes do they like and ask if they like reality shows.

Vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To provide clarification of the vocabulary that is used in the coming reading.

- elicit the vocabulary from Ss. - ask CCQs. - choral drill the words. - write the words on the board. - give Ss the vocab HO.

Pre-Reading (7-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible.

- pair Ss - project the picture and the title. - ask Ss to look at the picture and the title of the reading and decide what the programme is about. - Ss discuss in pairs - WC FB

While-Reading #1 (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading tasks.

- ask Ss to read the text and check their predictions. - give Ss reading HO.

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading task.

- give instructions - give Ss T/F HO - quick FB

Post-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- give instructions, ask them to work alone - give gap-fill HO - check in pairs

Post-Reading (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned.

- pair Ss - give instructions 'Would you apply to be on a programme like this? Why/ Why not?' - ask the to discuss in pairs and tell them they can ask the questions in the gap-fill exercise to eachother.
