Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice and fluency speaking in a conversation within the context of therapeutic medication.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set context and raise the interest of the students on the topic.

I will elicit from the students what they think a therapy is and if they know any form of therapy. Students will discuss in groups to check if anyone has an idea on what therapy is or the kinds of therapy we have.

Pre- teach vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To familiarize the students with some of the words that they will see in the audio they will listen to.

Show meaning, form and pronunciation of words like Destruction, therapy, metropolitan, smash, laughter and stress.

Receptive Skill (8-10 minutes) • Listening for Gist

T will give the SS hand outs containing two questions, 1. "Which two therapies does the programme talk about".2. "The therapies are used in two in different situations. What situations are mentioned" T will tell the SS to listen to an audio conversation between a radio presenter and a professor on therapeutic medication and provide the answers in pairs T will ask ICQs like, " are we going to fill in any gap?" are we completing any sentences?" " are we going to work in pairs before listening" " are we going to listen and answer the questions in pairs." After these questions T will proceed to play the audio. S will listen while the T monitors and if T notices that the SS didn't get the conversation he will play it again.

Listening for details (5-8 minutes) • Provide further listening activities to make sure the student understand the concept better.

1. T will tell the SS to listen to the audio and answer the True (T) or False (F) questions . 2. T will tell the SS to work alone. 3. T will hand out True (T) or False (F) questions' handouts to the SS. 4. T will ask ICQs like, " are we working in pairs" " are we going to answer the questions and then listen" " are we going to listen and answer the questions while reading" 5. T will proceed to play the audio again. 6. T will monitor while the SS listen and do the activity. 7 T will ask the students to cross check their answer with each other for correction. T plays the audio again provide corrections if there's need for one.

Productive skill ( post listening) (5-8 minutes) • For SS to practice and improve their speaking skills.

1 T will group the students using the months " April and May" . April in one group and May in another. 2. T will tell the students to discuss the following in their group. A. Do you think destruction therapy and laughter therapy are good ideas? Why/Why not.? B. Would you try any of the ideas in the program?. If there is time, the groups will swap topics and share their idea. While the group discussions are on-going T will listen and make error correction where there's need for one. SS share their ideas on the topic and T makes inputs and thanks them for coming. Signs the register for the day.
