Description

In this lesson, students will learn about the present simple in the negative form i the context of technology. They will practice these forms through listening and speaking exercises. They will listen to a recording in Straightforward beginners, analyse the meaning form and pronunciation and practice this language through some speaking exercises.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a game in the context of technology

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss "Do you have a mobile phone?" / "Hands up who has a MP" Answer: yes "Does anyone have 2 mobile phones?" 7 "" Answer: Probably yes "Why?" Answer: Work phone/travel/old & new "I also have 2 MPs (Show phones) ...Why do you think I have 2 phones?" "I have 1 phone for Ireland and 1 phone for Turkey" -Show which is which Elicit.... "I USE this phone in Ireland and I USE this phone in Turkey" Write "use" on WB

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Show hand out #1 to Ss. "Tick the words you hear in the conversations".(Demonstrate) ICQ - "What are you going to do?" Play recording Monitor, Peer check in pairs- W/C check- ask each pair to give an answer Show HO#2 - " There are 6 sentences, some are true, some are____'' "Listen and write which ones are true, and which ones are false". ICQ- "What are you going to do?" Monitor, Peer check, W/C check "No. 1" __ "No.2"__ ect

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Say "The woman writes personal emails at work'' True/ False "What can we say about this?" Elicit " The woman doesn't write personal emails at work.'' Point out that you drop the 's' n the verb for this form. "She doesn't write personal emails at work"- Drill, Write on WB, "The man and woman have a computer at home" True/ False "What can we say for this?" Elicit "The man and woman don't have a computer at home" "They don't have a computer at home"- Drill, Write on WB She + doesn't+ write personal emails at work. He/She/It + doesn't + verb.... They + don't + have an computer at home. I/ You/ We/ They + don't + verb.....

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

CCQ; Write I ____ (not go) to ITI by bus. I go by Metro. She ____ (not have) a mobile phone. Show gap- fill HO to students. "Put the correct words in the space" Monitor. Peer check and W/C check

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Make groups- 3-4 people in each group Apples, Oranges, Pears, Bananas.... "Hands up apples" ect Put HO on the WB. Write your name under 'name' and signal to a student to ask you the first question & have them write yes or no in the box. "You must ask these 6 questions to everyone in your group" ICQ- "How many questions are you going to ask?" "How many people are you going to ask?" (5 mins) Monitor and take notes discretely hand out HO#5 "Write 3 sentences about the people in your group using this information" Show the example on W/B ICQ- "What are you going to do?" "How many sentences will you write?" Monitor and take notes for delayed feedback

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Board game.Are you a techowizard? Stay in same groups. Show the game to the class. "This is a game" "Each person will have 1 counter'' "Each group will have 1 dice" Demonstrate. Roll the dice. Move to the space. Make the sentence positive to make it true and move forward. Roll again. Move to the space and make the sentence negative to make it true. Miss a turn- "What's this?" '' Do you move?'' ----Elicit... No. You don't move. The first person to get to the FINISH is the winner! ICQ - If you have to say "I don't have an MP3 player"- Do you have to move forward or backward? "I have an Ipod" Do I move forward or backwards? "What is miss a turn?" Play the game and monitor. Take note of errors in language. Feedback
