Main Aims

  • vocabulary/ function

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking and listening

Procedure

Warming -up (5-7 minutes) • Quick review

The teacher reminds the students with the activities she does in the free time T asks the Ss to work in pairs to talk about three of their favourite activities to do in their free time. I will prepare some flash cards with some activities, in case they are not able to speak or participate e.g. (tennis, music, books, football)

Pre teach vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • set a context

The teacher sets a context to elicit the vocabulary from the Ss. The context is 'one of my favourite activities to do in my free time is to go shopping. What things we can buy when we go shopping'. T starts eliciting. Then she pastes the pictures on the board one by one to make sure that they know the meaning and she also drill. T might play the recording for Ss to listen and drill

Clarification/ a controlled practice (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the MFP

The teacher now writes the words on the board with stress and part of speech T gives the Ss a matching exercise as a kind of feedback that they understand all the vocabulary. Then T asks to check in pairs and with the whole class

Pre-Listening (5-8 minutes) • To introduce the function of this, that, these and those

The Teacher sets a context for the demonstrative pronouns and adjectives Your watch is nice. How much is this? That computer is good. How much is that computer? Those buildings are very high. These shoes are expensive. T can elicit the words we use for close and near things in singular and plural T drill them and write them on the WB T gives the Ss fill in the gaps exercise to practice the TL as a controlled practice

Listening for details (3-5 minutes) • To provide modal sentences for the speaking activity and practice theTL

The teacher gives students clear instruction to listen and fill in the gaps She plays the recording twice if neccessary

productive skill/ free practice (8-10 minutes) • to speak using the TL

T asks Ss to play a role of shop assistants and customers who go around the class and ask each others about the prices of the things in the photos on the board. The teacher might have many copies of the photos pasted on the walls of the classroom to engage all Ss in the role play and it makes the activity easier because the classroom is very small and they cannot move easily.

Listening for details (2-4 minutes) • to practice the language in the supermarket

-Ss already had the speaking activity and this listening is just to fill in the blanks and then recognize how to use the language in the supermarket. If the teacher has an extra time,T asks the Ss to listen and fill in the gaps individually Check in pairs and then with the whole class
