Description

In this lesson learners will learn some vocabulary through guided discovery based on watching a TV programme about internet. The lesson starts with a discussion on internet. This is followed by some vocabulary studies where the students will learn some words and phrases that are used in the context of internet. And then they will watch a TV programme that provides statistical information about internet usage in UK. Finally they will talk about advantages&disadvantages of internet.

Main Aims

To provide detailed listening practice using a text about The Virtual Revolution in the context of How has the internet changed the world?

Subsidiary Aims

To provide accuracy in the context of use of internet

Procedure (30-38 minutes)

Stage 1 (3-4 minutes) • Get Ss to discuss about the internet

Ss will discuss how the internet changed our world. They will put forward some ideas.

Stage 2 (4-5 minutes) • Elicit some vocab

Elicit the meaning of some words and phrases in the context of internet.

Stage 3 (4-5 minutes) • Check the ideas

T will show Ss some sentences about the effects of internet. Ss will discuss if any of them were mentioned in the previous discussion.

Stage 4 (3-4 minutes) • Get Ss to read the text and discuss

T will get Ss to read the text quickly. Ss will read the text and discuss the questions in pairs.

Stage 5 (3-4 minutes) • Get Ss to listen and do the task

Ss will watch a DVD review and put the statistics in the order they are mentioned.

Stage 6 (5-6 minutes) • Get Ss listen and match the people with extacts

Ss will watch an listen the video and match the people and extracts. T will replay the video if needed.

Stage 7 (8-10 minutes) • Get Ss to discuss the questions

T opens up a discussion. Ss discuss the questions about use of internet in groups
