In this lesson, SS will learn reading for gist by skimming the text and check their answers for true or false task. they will also learn reading for scan and detailed through two more tasks. The lesson starts with projection of the white house and the president of USA and asking students to work in pairs to talk about how many rooms in the white house, what the president do there or does he live their or it is just his work place this will work as warmer before reading the text. These followed by pre teaching some vocabulary and drilling and showing where the stress in each word. Finally there is a follow up activity for free speaking where students can talk about their dream house.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading through the context in the white house.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of this lesson Ss will be able to react to the text through speaking activity about their dream house.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet students Ask students to work in groups and talk about how many rooms do they think in the white house and does the president live there or just work there.

Pre-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Elicit the words from students before give it to them For each word drill then show stress then drill again

While-Reading #1 (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Ask Ss to try to do true or false task Give them the task and ask them to check their answers. set 2 minutes for this. Ask Ss to do task find the numbers

While-Reading #2 (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Ask Ss to answer task number 4 and underling the answers in the text

Post-Reading (10-13 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Tell students to think about their dream house give them time to do so. Ask them to work in pairs and tell each other about their dream house.
