I was there because I did not have to work - can anyone tell me why I was there?" Elicit "holiday" or "vacation" and continue. "One thing I did not like about London was the high prices. Everything costs very much and nothing was cheap. Everything was very - what do you say if it wasn't cheap?" Elicit "expensive" and continue. Tell Ss, "Here I will show you how much things cost in London." Put Intro HO on WB. Ask, "Does anyone know what this symbol means?" Elicit "pounds" or "pounds sterling" and continue. Tell Ss, "Now you will talk with your partner and write down what you think these things costs in lira here in Istanbul. You have two minutes to talk and write." ICQ: Ask S, "Will you write here in lira or in pounds?" Ask S, "Will you write what they are here or in London?" When Ss are finished, invite them to come write their answers up on the board.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To practice speaking and writing and provide context for the target language through listening

Show picture of money and ask, "What is this?" Elicit answer "money." Drill for pronunciation, turn off projector, and write answer on WB. Ask Ss, "How do you say what the cost of something is?" Elicit answer "price." Drill for pronunciation and write on WB. Put HO1.1 up on WB. Tell Ss, "Now you will match these numbers with the correct prices by drawing a line." Model the first problem with a S, then give each pair one copy of HO1.1 and tell them they have 1 - 2 minutes to finish. Invite pairs to draw lines on the board when they are finished. Review as a class and drill for pronunciation as necessary. Move to HO1.2. Tell Ss, "Now you will practice saying these prices with your partners and then you will write it down." ICQ: Ask a S, "What will you do first for this one?" Elicit, "Say seventeen pounds." Ask, "and then?" Elicit, "Write down seventeen pounds," mime as necessary. Give each pair one copy of HO1.2 and tell them they have 1 - 2 minutes to finish. Invite pairs to write down the answers on WB when they are finished.
