The lesson is about using adjectives to describe places, and also about what food, weather, people and cities are like ?

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to acheive TL ( describing places, people, food and weather ) by using adjectives in the context of ( what's Edinburgh like? )

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop students listening skills, by the end of the lesson students will have improved their ability to listen to specific information through an interactional conversation on the topic of "What's Edinburgh like ?

Procedure

lead-in (5 minutes) • To get the students attention and arouse their interest in the topic.

I stick some pictures on the WB to elicit some feedback from the students. I ask: What can you see in these pictures ? I point to a picture and I ask: Can you describe the weather in this picture? I mime cold to help students name the correct adjective. I write cold on the WB and ask: What kind of word is it ? is it a verb? is it a noun? I receive feedback from students

controlled activity (10 minutes) • To make the students aware of using different types of adjectives.

I tell the students that they are going to put different types of adjectives that describe cities, people, weather and food in the correct column,then we do choral drilling to practice pronunciation usin the new vocabulary.

controlled activity (10 minutes) • To test the students knoweldge and maintain interest.

I am going to put a picture of a Scottish man on the board, wearing the traditional clothes to help students answer these questions : what is the capital city of Scotland? what is the language they speak? What is the currency? What's a kilt? What are bagpipes?

controlled activity (10 minutes) • listening for specific information and expose students to hear native speakers, and to find the anwsers through listening.

I tell the students that they are going to listen to Bruce McMullen and Marlen, talking to each other about food,weather, people in Edinburgh then ask them to listen carefully then, and check their answers.

controlled activity ( mingling ) (7 minutes) • To maintain involvement and reinforce target language.

Ask students to find a partner who has the answer for his or her question, then ask each pair to ask and answer one another.

freer activity (3 minutes) • Practice speaking for fluency to build self-confident.

Ask students to talk about the weather, food, people and cities in their country.
