Description

In this lesson, students learn the future form of the infinitive with to, the verb with ing and the use of going to future by talking about holiday plans. First the students do a vocabulary activity about the words they have learned in the previous lesson. Sudents are introduced to new phrases about holiday. Then they match the phrases with their infinitives. After that, students try to figure out the meaning of the future infinitive to by doing another matching activity. After clarifying grammar, students try to make correct sentences with the infinitive ''to''. Finally, as a speaking acivity, students build up their own sentences using the future form of the infinitive with to.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • to set lesson context by reminding the ss about the previous lesson

The teacher writes 13 adjectives on the board from the lesson before. He also writes ''want to''. The students are supposed to work with their partners and try to build up sentences using the verb want + the infinitive ''to'' with the adjectives.

Exposing the target language through vocabulary (4-6 minutes) • To elicit the use of grammar

Teacher shows a Picture about holiday and asks the ss why we go on holiday. Then the teacher gives a HO about holiday. Ss are supposed to match 6 holiday pictures with their phrases. Then the teacher gives the answers by showing the pictures. Then the Ss are given another HO. They have to mach the half sentences with their another half.

Highlighting the grammar (4-5 minutes) • To draw students attention to the target language

Each pair is given 2 different cards. Pairs have to work together to find the matches of the sentences.

Grammar clarification (10-13 minutes) • to clarify he meaning, form and pronunciaion of the targe language.

The teacher writes down sentences about the infinitive ''to'' He underlines verbs and the infinitives. He explains the meaning of it. Then he explains the form e.g I hope + infinitive to, look forward to +verb ing. Finally he drills the sentences and writes them down.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students are given a HO. Students have to work in pairs and try to make correct sentences. Then the teacher asks the ss the correct answers and writes then on the board.

Free Practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The ss are given 5 questions. The students ask and try to get answers from each other. They write down the names of the people that gave the answers. Finally the teacher asks the questions e.g Who is Fatih going to see today ? Who is the person you would like to meet one day ?
