Description

In this lesson Ss will be practicing reading for gist and specific information through guided activities in the context of the differences between men and women. They will also practice listening about this issue from Youtube in the lead-in part. By this way, both of the receptive skills will be practiced. At the end of the lesson, as they will write some sentences stating their own ideas about genders and then will talk about what they have written in groups, they will also have the chance to practice both of the productive skills.

Procedure

Lead-in (6-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will watch a video in Youtube called Men Vs Women and will talk about it. They wil try to say what is told about men and women seperately. Then they will tell whether they agree with ideas presented in the video and why.

Highlighting (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with some vocabulary to make the text easy to understand.

Before reading the text T will pre-teach some vocabulary - battle, instinct and distant creating contexts and eliciting them from the Ss. Some CCQs may be used: Is it something about peace? No. Can we learn it later on? No ? Is there a huge space between these two? Yes. T shows stress, then models and drills.

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss will do ex-5A and decide whether the four statements are told by men or women with a partner. Then they will read the text and check their answers. For the feedback T will monitor the answers on WB and Ss will compare. If they have questions we will discuss.

While-Reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with a specific information reading task.

Ss will read the text again and do the activity 5C. They will find who said each sentence provided. And check with a partner. For the feedback one student will come to the WB and write the answer others will state if they agree. T will clarify the correct answer.

Freer Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will write two sentences about men and two sentences about women concerning each gender's personality. T will write one sentence for each on WB to provide some examples for the Ss. After they write, they discuss as a group and others will tell whether they agree or not and they will switch roles. T will observe and help when necessary.
