Description

In this lesson, students practice their reading skills and learn new vocabulary. The lesson starts with a discussion of what a teenager is and what characteristics they have. This is followed by a reading about teenagers and a T/F questions activity. Finally, they will match phrases from the text with their meanings. Then, discuss two questions related to the topic.

Procedure

Warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and motivate learners to read the text when it comes.

- project picture of teenager - write 'teenager' - pair Ss and make them brainstorm ideas of what a teenager is - get feedback

Pre-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- give instructions - give the HO - regroup Ss - make them read and discuss the questions - get feedback - write ideas on board

Pre-Reading (2-3 minutes) • To make learners guess what the text is about

- give Ss the reading HO - ask them to look at the title and the picture, and guess what the text is about - elicit predictions of what the text might be about

While-Reading #1 (5-7 minutes) • To give learners a reason to read

- ask Ss to read the text - regroup Ss - make Ss discuss what problems were mentioned in the text - get feedback - tick of ideas on the board

While-Reading #2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading tasks

- give instructions - give gap-fill HO - make them complete ex.2 - make them check in pairs - ask Ss to come to board and complete the summary

While-Reading #3 (7-8 minutes) • For learners to get better at reading in a particular way

Post-Reading (7-10 minutes) • To improve learners' vocabulary and give learners a reason to read

Post-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To give learners a chance to react to the text in a personal way
