Description

In this lesson students will learn vocabulary regarding social interactions through guided discovery. The lesson starts with a discussion about Facebook. This is followed by pre-teaching some vocabulary and a brief test. After a listening activity for correct intonation and pronunciation, the lesson ends with speaking about the learners' experiences.

Materials

  • To provide practice of social media words in the context of human interactions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation, intonation in the context of family, parent, teenager

Procedure

Stage 1 (1-3 minutes) • Talk about Facebook

Ask Ss if they use Facebook and why.

Stage 2 (4-5 minutes) • Pre-teach vocab

Pre-teach gossip, compliment, moan, boast, argue, warn, chat, apologise

Stage 3 (4-6 minutes) • Match the words

Get Ss to match the words in ex.8.a. Check in pairs.

Stage 4 (5-6 minutes) • Listen and copy the intonation

Play the recording 8c and get Ss to copy the intonation

Stage 5 (2-3 minutes) • Underline the phrases which involve communication

Get Ss work alone to underline the phrases in p.150/1a. Show example

Stage 6 (4-5 minutes) • Match the underlined phrases

Get Ss match the underlined phrases with the phrases in p150/1b.

Stage 7 (5-6 minutes) • Personal experiences of Ss for topics

Get Ss to think about their teenage years and to take notes. Monitor and support.

Stage 8 (6-7 minutes) • think about now and compare

Get Ss to think about today and the topics in 9b and to make notes. Get them to compare their experiences.

Stage 9 (4-5 minutes) • Discuss the ideas

Get Ss to discuss their ideas in groups and nominate from groups to share ideas.
