Main Aims

  • To provide practice of some common adjectives in the context of Istanbul

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a reordering of the incorrect sentences
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a matching activitiy and a pictionary game.

Procedure

Warmer (2-4 minutes) • To revise the numbers 1-100.

The teacher will give the students a worksheet on which they have numbers 1-100. However, each student will have a different number missing in his/her HO, so they will come to the board to fetch the missing number and say it out loud.

Presentation (5-8 minutes) • Ss will get familiar with a number of adjectives.

Sts will be shown a PowerPoint presentation which will introduce the TL in the context of Istanbul. After the first slide, T will ask Ss to make notes as they watch it, and they will announce their answers afterwards. During the second presentation they will be introduced to TL. At the end of this stage, T will elicit the word 'adjective'.

Matching (4-6 minutes) • Ss will be able to match the adjectives to the pictures using TL.

After understanding the idea of opposite adjectives, Ss will the do the matching exercise individually and check with their partners. After most of them finishes, the teacher will elicit the answers from the Ss.

Pronunciation Drill (3-5 minutes) • The students will be able copy the word stress correctly.

The T plays the recording. Ss listen and practise chorally. The T checks if the Ss copy the Word stress correctly. T can repeat the drill if necessary.

Grammar (8-10 minutes) • Students will be able understand the rules about adjectives.

T will write some example sentences on the board and go through the rules with the class, highlighting the following points: *Adjectives go after be: Your watch is nice. *Adjectives go before a noun: It's a new car. * We use an when the adjective begins with a vowel: It's an old car.

Reordering Sentences (3-5 minutes) • Ss will reorder some incorrect sentences by changing the order of the words.

Ss will be given some incorrect sentences and they will correct them with their partners. T will monitor and elicit the answers.

Pictionary (8-10 minutes) • Ss will produce adjective and noun combinations.

Ss will work in groups of three or four. Each group will be given a set of adjectives and nouns. Each student will take an adjective card and a noun card so that they can draw a picture of their combination. When they finish drawing, they'll show their pictures to the other group members asking "What is this?". The other Ss have to guess the depicted adjective noun combination.
