Main Aims

  • To provide practice of quantifiers through a context of cooking

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of reading for gist and reading for specific informtion.

Procedure

Lead-in activity (3-4 minutes) • To introduce the topic of cooking

I'll show ss aphoto of a cook and ask them about him to introduce the topic of cooking. In pairs ss will discuss six questions about cooking.

Reading for gist (1-2 minutes) • To get ss to know what the reading text is about.

I'll write three different topics on the board. ask ss to read quickly and choose the topic that describes the text in just 30 seconds.

Reading for specific information (4-6 minutes) • To know more about the topic and find answers to specific questions

I'll pre-teach some vocabulary and drill them with ss. I tell them they should read text and answer the questions. I give them handouts and set a time limit. I ask them to check answers in pairs and then I check with whole class.

Grammar/controlled practice/freer practice (25-30 minutes) • To get ss to learn about quantifiers(a lot of/ lots of, a few, a little, too many, too much, not enough)

I tell ss they'll work in pairs, read some senteces and answer questions. I give them handouts. While they're working, I write sentences on the board. Then I elicit from them the meaning of grammar rule through asking ccqs, sometimes I mime to make sure the meaning is clear. I check the form of each sentence through asking ccqs. I put some sentences on the board and ask them to repeat after me(choral drill then individual drill) I focus on intonation( happy, sad, angry, sick, tired). I give them Handouts and ask them to answer the questions individually, then check in pairs. I check with the whole class. For freer practice I put them in pairs and ask each other questions about their eating habits. before I give them handouts, I demonstrate the exercise with a student.
