Description

This lesson would lead the SS to engage in activities that would help improve their abilities to make correct sentences, ask questions and give simple responses during interviews.

Materials

Abc handouts and slips

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of words about yourself or your thoughts and opinions in the context of of interview

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a in conversation in the context of interview

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Write out expressions and sentences out of order on the board . Correct the sentence. Allow students to correct the others alone . Cross check answers in pairs . Write correct sentences on the board..

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Divide students into pairs of A and B. Hand out slips containing expressions and responses . Ask students to march the expressions with the responses, but the teacher does the first example , Student A should read the first word while student B marches the expression. The teacher should do the same by reading a word and requesting another student to march the expression.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Teacher regroups into groups of A and B. Hand out the instructions to groups. Student from group A reads the instructions for their group while another student from group B reads the instructions from their group. The teacher allows the students time to prepare in the the groups while monitoring without being intrusive.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Pair the students and request that they role play the interview Teacher encourages the students to use language highlighted in the previous stage of the lesson. Teacher monitored the students interview taking not of correct and incorrect language. Students switch roles and try the interview again

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher writes out examples of correct and incorrect language and gives the pairs time to decide which sentences good and the ones that need improving.
