Teaching Practice 1

Description

In this lesson, students will revise Wh questions. They will also have a semi controlled oral practice, focusing on the names of the jobs and the countries.

Main Aims

  • To provide a review of Wh questions; jobs and countries in the context of personal information

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a role play

Procedure

Warmer / Lead in (2-4 minutes) • To remind the students the names of the jobs.

T will put the pictures of the jobs on the walls. Ss will walk around the classroom and write down the names of the jobs on their papers. T checks with the whole class.

Gap Filling (5-7 minutes) • To give controlled written practice of the TL

Ss will complete the gaps in the exercise in pairs and check their answers with an answer key. Then they will practise the conversations with their partners. T will choose some pairs to do the conversations in open class and corrects any pronunciation problems as necessary.

Making questions and giving short answers (5-7 minutes) • To provide semi controlled written practice of the TL

T will give Ss some jumbled sentences which they will change into questions about the people from the previous exercise. Then Ss will work in pairs to check the questions and they'll give short answers to the questions. T will elicit the answers from the Ss

Role play (15-18 minutes) • To provide a semi controlled speaking activity

T will give Ss a role card about a new identity. Ss will look at the pictures on their cards and complete the words for the country and the job. They will memorise their new name, country and job and moving around the room they will introduce themselves to each other. The teacher will monitor the students without interrrupting them. After Ss finish speaking, T will write some of the sentences she's heard and will discuss them with the Ss.

If Time Activity 1 (3-5 minutes) • To revise the short form to be (negative form)

The students will check the information in the exercise. They will tick the true sentences and make the false ones negative. Then they'll write the correct sentences with their partners. T will monitor and elicit the answers.
