Description

In this lesson the students learn greetings, numbers, and intonation. They will listen to dialogues in which they learn how to greet each other and practice saying numbers from 1-10. Later they will learn how to ask each other their phone numbers and then practice saying sentences with correct intonation.

Main Aims

  • To provide controlled speaking practice of functional language of phone numbers.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Review of the present simple tense, Wh question forms and listening for specific information.

Procedure

Starter (4-6 minutes) • To review how to greet each other

It is an activity that involves the whole class. They will listen to the recording and roleplay to practice afterwards.

Numbers 1 to 10 (3-4 minutes) • To teach sudents the correct pronunciation of numbers

In this listening exercise on page 10, students listen to correct ways of saying the numbers from 1-10.

Listening (4-5 minutes) • To teach students how to scan for specific information

They will listen to the recording and match the conversations to the pictures.

Asking for and Saying the phone numbers (4-5 minutes) • To teach students conversational language

The students will listen to the recording and then ask phone numbers to their partners for practice.

Grammar:It (4-5 minutes) • To teach the students correct grammar when they are saying phone numbers

Tell the students "my phone number is 966 0438" And then I will replace "my phone number " with It. Ask the students to replace the Italics with He, She or It.

Intonation (5-6 minutes) • To teach the students correct Pronunciation

I will play the recording and the students will hear how sentences are pronounced with correct Intonation. I will ask the students to repeat after me and practice where to put the stress in their sentences.

Speaking (5-6 minutes) • To practice a dialogue

Ask the students to listen to the dialogue and repeat. They will work in pairs and practice the dialogue while I am monitoring their conversation. After they finish some pairs can perform the dialogue in front of the class.

Activity (5-15 minutes) • To make the students practice asking and saying their phone numbers.

I will divide the class in 4 groups with 3 people in each group. They will have different phone numbers and pictures to pair up. They have to shuffle them first and turn the pieces upside down. Each has to pick up a piece and practice asking and answering the numbers.
