Description

This lesson will be based on giving students grammatical information on Present Tense he/she/it verb conjugations both in positive, negative and question forms of sentences. The lesson will revolve around 'Jobs', listening parts are expected to take a large part, and some new vocabulary will be provided.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Present Simple Tense- he/she/it in the context of Jobs

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a listening practice using texts about Engineer Andrew Johnson and Zoologist Claudia Luke in the context of Jobs.

Procedure

Anna Michaelova (2-4 minutes) • To determine the students knowledge on the topic of instruction

- Students are asked to stand up and take one card each from teacher. - Each card has to be filled. - Students are asked to work in pairs - The sentences on the cards are read by students to their partner. -The answer key is revealed on the projection and given to the students as handouts.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide the verb conjugations of Present Tense third person singular.

The conjugations of the several verbs are written on the board by teacher. Students will be asked to contribute by guessing the conjugations.

Topic Introduction (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the topic

Handouts with texts on them will the given to the students and students will be asked to read them alone. They will be given nearly 5 minutes to read.

Listening exercise on topic (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the pronunciation of the words in the texts students have read.

Students will be asked to listen and follow the texts they were given, and practice on the asked exercises related to the Tapescripts. Each exercise is expected to last no more than 5 minutes.

Visual demonstration of vocabulary (5-6 minutes) • Introduce new vocabulary

Students will be given handouts with related vocabulary on them. They will be asked to follow and repeat after the teacher as teacher also projects and reads the words aloud.

Pair Work (3-4 minutes) • Determine what students remember from he listening practice

The related handout will have been given already. Students will be asked to fill the chart on page 15 as they will be working in pairs or groups.

Contextual Matching (8-10 minutes) • To go through the grammar and vocabulary learned, as well as focus on sentence structures and contextual imaging.

Students will be given handouts from Workbook and will be split into different groups/pairs, and will be asked to complete the information about the people on the handout via matching the sentences given above. They will be asked to check with their partners/group members, then will be asked to answer the questions randomly asked by teacher. Answer key will be both given and projected.
