Description

In this lesson, students will learn job vocabulary. They will listen to a conversation to be able to ask each other questions about names, jobs and countries. They will also learn about verb to be: questions and short answers.

Abc Matching exercise
Abc Flash Cards for Verbs to be and Names of Claire, Steve, Daniela and Karl
Abc Pictures of (Amy, Ben, Karl, Steve, Claire and Daniela)
Abc Work sheets to practise verb to be: questions and short answers.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and practise the lexical set of jobs and the singular form of 'to be' for Wh- questions in the context of personal information.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To listen for specific information.

Procedure

Warming up (3-5 minutes) • Quick review

T reminds the students with their countries and nationalities. Then work in pairs to say the country and nationality.

Job activity (5-8 minutes) • To engage students and set lesson context

The teacher will paste job pictures on the board and ask Ss to discuss in pairs 'what's her/his job?'

Pre- Listening (2-3 minutes) • To Practise the job vocabulary and focus on stress.

The students will see the stress of the words on the board then listen to them

Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prdict the contents of the listening

use gestures to explain some new words.Give the students flash cards with four names and a photo of four people. They will work in groups to match the photos with the people

detailed Listening (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening

T hands out flash cards of tables. Ss listen and complete the table individually. Check in pairs (T can play a second time, if necessary)

Grammer (4-6 minutes) • To let the Ss know verbs to be (singular): questions and short answers

T pastes the flash cards of verbs to be on the board and writes 3 sentences on the WB. Ss have to choose the suitable one. Then they have work sheet to work in pairs.

Listening for pronounciation (3-5 minutes) • To highlight the word order and the contractions

Students listen to the recording and the teacher points out to the word order, contractions and usage of 'where' and 'what'.

Conversation (3-4 minutes) • To practise the usage of verb to be in questions

T asks Ss to work in pairs to ask each other questions about people in the flash cards
