Description

In this lesson the Ss will be putting into practice the buying phrases they will have learnt in the previous lesson and use their knowledge to write a conversation and role play.

Materials

Abc props for lead in
Abc writing paper for shop conversation
Abc w/s for ex 10
Abc projector
Abc w/b

Main Aims

  • To provide students with the opportunity to become fluent in the speaking and writing of a dialogue in the context of buying things.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To allow students the opportunity to become accustomed to the vocabulary learnt in the previous lessons.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Role play (freer exercise): There will be different shops and Ss will be assigned as customer assistant or customer. Ss will be put into small groups and act out the scenarios. Monitor. (This will be a freer practice to see how much Ss can recall from the previous lessons)

Speaking (semi-controlled) (10-12 minutes) • To provide Ss an opportunity to practise target skills and language.

Ex 10 p 35 - Speaking in partners Put model sentences on w/b with projector. Drill them chorally and individually with Ss. Look at pronunciation. Do an example of the exercise with a volunteer Ss to demonstrate to the class. Ss put into pairs with w/s and act out the ex. Monitor. Take fb.

Writing skills - semi controlled task (15-17 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice writing the conversations practiced in the lesson

Writing task: Explain to Ss that they will now write a conversation just like their role play. Keep the helpful sentences on the projector. Ss work in pairs. Monitor and assist when necessary. Write any recurring issues on the w/b. Ss practice their conversation until they can remember it.

Speaking - presentation (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to present their speaking activities

Ss present their dialogues to other groups. Monitor and take fb. Take notes of any issues.
