This is my first lesson with them. I am planning to make good warmer activity and encourage them to speak and join the lesson.

Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about "futurological conference"

  • To provide fluency about science fiction movies

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will draw a star on the board. I will write my name in the middle of it. Then share some information about me: 30- 2- Istanbul- Guitar- Sushi I will want them to talk with their partner and make guesses about these. Then I will explain.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Lead-in: I will make them watch a clip of Matrix. Encourage them to guess. Then explain them the word "science fiction" Posters on the board. Talk about the movies in pairs. Did you watch it? What happens in the movies?

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Lead-in: Show them a poster of a conference. Talk about it. What is it about? Would you like to go? Get them ready for the task. Talk about the names and the titles. There 10 titles but 7 names. Give them the print out of the text and titles. and also project it on board. Do it in pairs. Now it's time for the detailed reading. Give them the blocking vocabulary "cure" "prison" "satellite" Give them the task. Matching the titles with the texts. Make them write it on the board.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Lead in: Write the words on board. They are from the passage. Now complete the sentences in different pairs.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Make them groups. Talk about which conference they would like to go. Group work: find a partner to go to conference with. Demonstrate it.
