Description

In this lesson, Ss practise writing and speaking through "Dictogloss." They will listen to a celebration summary , write their own and discuss about it in the class so that they can experience listening, writing and speaking by practising past simple.

Main Aims

  • To provide a writing practice of an event in the context of celebrations.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a story telling in the context of celebrations
  • To provide gist and specific information in the context of celebrations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T shows the Ss some celebration photos of her to make them predict about the event, people and other details. -Ss work in pairs to brainstorm for two minutes. -T asks some questions to elicit answers from the Ss. - What did we celebrate ? - In which year did this celebration take place?/ - Where was the celebration? - What kind of things did we eat/drink ? - What did we do ? - What time did we go back home ? T writes some lexis or phrases on the w/board as feedback.

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

-Firstly, T reads the real story of what they have just predicted. Ss listen. -T reads the same story for the second time. Ss take notes as they listen. -Ss work in pairs to compare their notes. -Ss,individually, make a paragraph with their notes, which should almost be the same as the real story. -T monitors & helps where necessary as they are writing. -T projects the answers on the w/b so that Ss can check their answers.

Useful Language (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-T gives the Ss some key phrases to help them make up a story. -T models the first phrase and puts the Ss into groups to fill in the blanks. -T asks some questions to elicit some answers. -T gives some feedback where necessary.

Productive Task(s) (12-14 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-Ss write about one of their own celebration memory individually with a maximum of 8 sentences. -Ss can utilize both the phrases and questions which the T has just given. -T monitors and takes some notes of errors. -T nominates some Ss to read their stories. -Ss vote for the best story.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-T writes some of the mistakes on the board. -Ss find the mistake in the sentence. -T corrects the mistake by highlighting with coloured boardmarkers
