TP 4 Rising Stars Listening Lesson

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed information via listening practice using a recording about meeting famous people in the context of celebrities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of concerts of celebrities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show pictures of several celebrity fans and ask the ss who they are and what they're doing and get WC FB.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Then, I'll ask the ss speak in pairs about(2 min): "Have you ever been a fan of a celebrity that you always wanted to meet ? Who are they? Why did you/do you like them?" And get WC FB I'll ask the ss to work in pairs and match the words with the definitions(2 min) I'll get WC FB and clear out the pronunciation and appropriacy of the words.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I'll explain to the ss: "Now you will listen to three people on a talk show. They're talking about the famous people they've met in their jobs." "You're going to match the famous people to the speakers." and handout the 2nd exercise. After the ss have completed the exercise individually, I'll ask for PC and then WC FB

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I'll ask the ss: "Listen again and write true/false to the information given." I'll hand out exercise 3. The ss work individually and then do PC, and WC FB.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I'll ask the ss: "Have you ever met a famous people?" I'll get WC FB quickly and give a situation to the ss: "Imagine that you’ve got tickets for the concert of your favourite star which you’re going together with your friends. You want to give your favourite singer a message: Work in groups and decide which concert you’re going to. design a banner you would like to bring with you to the concert."(4 min) I'll handout the banner templates I've prepared. I'll collect the banners and show them to the class.
