Description

This is a vocabulary and reading lesson which the Ss will learn some words related to diseases and they will be more familiar with the suffix -able .

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of the suffix -able and what exactly they can use it for.To provide them with new vocabulary.To also encourage them to define the words before seeing or hearing the correct definitions..

Subsidiary Aims

  • To encourage the students to try to use different words when speaking.Even if all these words aren't words that we can use for faily english,it will still make them construct a better niveau in their sentences.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the topic

Greet Ss Show pictures of some children and people with serious diseases in some countries. Try to get them intrested by making them guess what the context is. Ss think and share their ideas with the whole class. Take some general feedback.

Vocabulary (8-9 minutes) • To make the students more familiar with the context and and words related to the context

Show them the headline on the picture from the course book. Make them guess what the keyword is which will lead me to bringing up the suffix -able. Give some cards for a matching activity. Ss work in pairs to match the adjectives with the suffix -able on a paper. Monitor-help if needed. Check their answers.

Pre-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To give practice for reading and to prepare them for the details.To raise awareness to the language of diseases.

Show them the title of the text. Ask them to share their ideas about the context. Give FBs. Hand the texts and ask them what they know about the three diseases on the headlines and tell the to discuss in pairs.

Reading (11-12 minutes) • To provide Ss with an opportunity to respond to the text.

Give Ss time to read more slowly and complete the task. Ss do the task check their answers but check their answers in groups. Give FB.

Reading-Vocabulary Practice (7-8 minutes) • To give practice for the new vocabulary.

Ss work in groups to find the words to match the definitions. Monitor-Help if needed.

Vocabulary Practice (6-7 minutes) • To give Ss practice for vocabulary usage and ecourage them to express their ideas.

Ss read the statements that has two options they can choose to express their own opinions. Ss discuss in small groups. Give some feedbacks and Ss come to an agreement.
