Description

This is a vocabulary and writing lesson which the students will learn and use the specific time phrases and writing while using them.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of time phrases
  • To provide practice of time phrases and improve the writing skill by using new word phrases.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of time
  • To encourage students to notice the effect of using these time phrases instead of regular and formal simple time words.

Procedure

Vocabulary Practice (6-8 minutes) • To give Ss the definitions and practice of the phrases that they will learn

Ask them if they can guess the meanings of the 2 time phrases. After feedbacks give them the definitions with examplesand ask Ss questions using these time phrases. Tell them to ask at least one question to the student next to them.

Vocabulary Practice (15-17 minutes) • To provide Ss with an opportunity to make sure they can use these words in the correct form.

Give a handout with matching question and answers on. Ss work in small groups to categorise the phrases. Ask some questions using some of the time phrases to talk about the future. Ss discuss them in pairs before sharing with the whole class.

Writing Preparation (4-5 minutes) • To give the Ss the opportunity to think about the topic and share and recieve ideas from their group members

Ss choose their own 1 topic that they feel optimistic about. Put Ss into groups. Ss discuss and share ideas.

Writing (15-16 minutes) • To remember how to use the time phrases and improve writing skills

Give them the paper with the question on for their writing topic. Discuss with Ss about whose more optimistic. Make them aware of the fact that there will be a winner whose writing will be on a public magazine. Ss work alone on their paragraphs.

Evaluating the writing (2-3 minutes) • They will read other ideas and usage of the phrases which will give them ideas for next time.

Hang the papers on the Wall. Ss stand up and read eachother's. They decide on a name for the best optimistic person with reasons.
