Main Aims

  • To provide practice of "to be positive"

Subsidiary Aims

  • Skills: To listen for specific information

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Start with a game of crosswords. Group work. Three teams and winner gets the prize.

Test #1 (7-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Lead-in Teacher: T has some objects and show the class. "What's my job?" Students try to guess. Teacher gives the letters to them and elicit the language. Students are shown some visuals about jobs. Make guesses and write them on board.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Students are given hand-outs. Group work. Students match the jobs with the pictures. Set up listening. Students listen and practice. They choose a job for themselves. Asking each other their jobs then writing them on board.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Show a picture of a wedding. Teach the word "married" Ask each other "are you married?" Show a picture of a single person. Teach the word "single" Ask each other. "Beautiful" "Friend" teach them by body language. Talk about Amy and Ben. Give them the pictures of Amy and Ben. Listen and talk about it. Talk about the names. Give them hand-outs. Listen for detailed information.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teach them the Q words "what" "where". Write on the board and show it with body language. Give them the hand outs and fill them. Set up listening. Ask and answer questions in pairs.
