Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the future tenses in the context of hotel accommodation

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a dialogue in the context of hotel accommodation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll begin with showing key words about Gavin and Nicki's problems they had while accommodating in a hotel I'll mark the word "lift" and ask "What was wrong with the lift/elevator?" I'll point out the conversation on the left and ask "What did Gavin say?" (We'll walk.) I'll write it on WB I'll mark the word "door" and ask "What was the problem about the doors?" I'll point out the conversation on the right and ask "What did Nicki say?" (We're going to see a film.) I'll write it on WB

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I'll ask some concept questions to clarify the meaning first: Do both of them talk about the future? (Yes) Did Gavin already plan it before? (no) Did Gavin decide at the moment? (yes) Did Nicki already plan it before? (Yes) Did Gavin decide at the moment? (No) I'll draw a timeline if neccesary. I'll ask the form of the language to the ss: Full form: We will walk. (I'll clear out the pron of we'll and make each ss repeat.) Negative: We won't walk. Full form: We will not walk. Question: Will they walk? Full form: We are going to... (pron of we're going...) Negative: We aren't going to... Full form: We are not going to... Question: Are they going to...?

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I'll ask the ss to fill in the blanks with I'll+verb in pairs and hand out exercise 1. I'll get WC FB and write the correct answers on WB.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I'll ask the ss work in pairs and complete the dialogues as shown in the example and hand out exercise 2. (3 min) I'll ask FB nominating ss come to the WB and write the answers.

Controlled Practise (5-7 minutes) • To check the students' understanding of the form of the language

I'll ask the ss work in pairs and fill in the blanks with 'll or going to and hand out exercise 3. (3min) I'll nominate the ss for FB and write the answers on WB.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I'll ask the ss to write 2 dialogues in pairs according to the pictures given in exercise 4 (3 min.) After finishing I'll ask for 2 volunteer pairs and give a necktie to the s who is acting like the manager, and a backpack to the s acting like the guest and want them to roleplay in front of the class. I'll make error correction when necessary. (3 min)
