Introduce New Years traditions. What I did for NYE this year. What is the tradition in Canada. Hand out Reading - sts will read what other countries do for NYE In groups sts will discuss what they do for NYE and what the traditions in turkey are for both NYE and NYD.

Introduce the topic of resolutions Write my resolutions on the WB I will exercise 4 times a week. I am going to run 5km tomorrow. I will save more money. I am not going to go shopping this weekend. I will drink more water everyday I am going to drink water with my coffee in the morning. I will not sleep in. I am going to get up at 7am everyday. Subject + will + verb. Subject + am/is/are + going to + verb Will - voluntary action or a promise Going to - express a plan, intention to do something.

Students will practice using will or going to with a gap fill Work alone, check in pairs. Correct together. Provide additional HO if necessary.

Have students read the text about NY resolutions and answer questions and check in pairs. Review modal verbs Fresh start - new beginning, start over. Stick with - continue with (person or thing). Keep up with - similar to stick with.

Introduce HO Use an example of my own Make sure the sts are familiar with the vocabulary: challenges, supports. Students will work in groups to complete the HO and then each group will tell another group their resolutions. If there are not enough groups each will tell the class.
