Description

In this lesson , Students read a story about Kath Kelly who uses unique ways for living cheaply . They learn some Multi-word verbs about managing money and at the end they will have the chance to practice what they have learnt through asking and answering each other .

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about living cheaply in the context of saving money

  • To provide clarification and practice of managing money and to provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in the context of saving money

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask students to think about ways of saving money . Brainstorm . Show a picture of Kath Kelly and let them guess what did she do to live cheaply FB

Initial Reading Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide SS practice in predicting about the text

Ss read the text Ask Ss to underline the ways that Kath used to live cheaply . Peer check before whole class feedback

Detailed reading task (8-10 minutes) • To provide students practice for more detailed understanding of a reading text

Ss read the article again to find more detailed information .They will give answers for six questions . Work individually before comparing ideas with a partner . FB

Post-Reading (8-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss do the matching from memory .Then they read the article again to check . FB Ss complete the questions with the multi -word verbs Peer check Clarify the MFP of the multi -word verbs . FB

Production, speaking activity (5-8 minutes) • To give students free practice on TL, to allow personalisation and speaking practice

Ss ask and answer the questions in pairs . give help as necessary . make sure they are using TL by monitoring them . report back FB
