Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening and speaking practice using a text about months and the date in the context of a day off

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Show Ss the pictures of national holidays in Turkey. -Ask them what they are and what these numbers are (months).

Vocabulary Analysis (7-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-[WB1]Show ex 1 on the board and tell Ss to listen to the pronunciation of these months [CD1.60] and drill. -[HO1] Match the words to the column on the board [WB1] -Peer check -Ask Ss to write the word on the board. -T will play the recording [CD1.61] and check their answers and drill.

Vocabulary practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language in order to get them ready for listening.

-[WB]Show the questions and answer examples (which Ss learned yesterday) -PW and do p. 44, Vacab-ex 4 -W/C FB

While-Listening #1 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

- T will tell Ss that they are going to listen to 4 speakers' conversation about special days[CD1.62]. -Match the speakers 1-4 to the pictures A-D.

While-Listening #2 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

-Ss will listen to the recording one more time. -Ss will write down the months for each special day which each speaker talks about. -Peer check -W/C FB

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Work in group and give Ss HO3. - Ss will discuss the p. 44, Listening-ex 3.

If time, language practice (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with practice of language
