Description

In this lesson, students will learn a Causative form through a present-practice technique as well as improve their fluency in the topic "Household jobs".

Materials

Main Aims

  • To explain the Causative form to students through the present-practice technique by paying attention to 3 structures such as "have smth done", "to get smb to do it", "to do it by yourself".

Subsidiary Aims

  • Upon learning grammatical structures the teacher is going to improve the students' productive skills such as speaking on a specific topic through a freer practice.

Procedure

Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • To engage students in the topic

The teacher hangs three pictures on the WB and asks the CQs to elicit some appropriate grammatical constructions. After that the Teacher writes main formulae under the pictures.

Grammar (2-5 minutes) • To elicit the understanding of the topic from the students

The teacher divides the class into pairs and asks the students to look at the HO and match the statements in Ex. 1. to the meaning in Ex.1a. Who is a quick student and finishes the first, the teacher asks to write the answers on the WB. The other students check them.

Grammar activities (3-5 minutes) • Restricted output

The teacher asks the students to make up their own sentences using one of these grammatical constructions and then discuss these sentences with the partner. Then the teacher chests in the HO and instructs the students to match Ex.1 to Es. 1b with the right tense name.

Filling in the gaps (2-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning of the grammatical stcructures in the context

The teacher instructs the students to read the text on the HO in Ex.2 and fill in the gaps with the right grammatical construction. As soon as the students have finished, the teacher divides the students into the groups of 3 for the discussion. The teacher gives the answers in a sheet of paper to check the answers.

3 columns (2-5 minutes) • Authentic output to use learnt material in practice

The students have to make three lines of phrases relating to the grammatical constructions relying only on their own experience. Then they discuss the answers with their partners.

Find someone who (5-7 minutes) • to improve fluency in freer practice

The teacher writes a question on WB (Do you clean the house by yourself or have it cleaned for you?). The students will have to ask this question to fill in the form with the names of people who do that. It's a mingle activity.

Board game (5-8 minutes) • To practice speaking on purpose

The teacher divides the class into two, three groups and gives them a board game. They throw a dice and the number that they get will be their sentence number. Read the sentence and paraphrase it by using learnt structures. While the students are talking, the teacher notices their mistakes which can be checked in a delayed correction.
