Description

In this lesson, students will review the phrases that are taught by previous lesson. They will learn the MFP of the phrases with the same context. Although some of the students might know the form, give them clear MFP to encourage them to use the form appropriately.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show the 7 phrases from the reading that they have read in the previous lesson. Show WB1. Ask Ss what the highlighted verbs are called (modal) to check if some Ss already know modal. (Since the context will be cleary introduced in the previous lesson, I skip few initial steps that relate to the steps of setting context.)

Clarification (10-11 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will give the meaning check for will, may, might, and could that are used in the reading. Show the example sentence for will, may might and could on the board and 1) ask CCQs (meaning); 2. show the form; 3. elicit stress, model and drill.(WB 2-7)

Controlled Practice #1 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students more meaningful practice in order to check concepts.

T tells Ss to work individually and give 5-6 min to work on ex 1 (p. 135) (HO1). Peer-check and W/C FB.

Controlled Practice #2 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students more meaningful practice in order to check concepts.

Tell Ss to work individually for this exercise. Give Ss ex 2 (p. 17) (HO2). Monitor. Peer-check. W/C FB T shows the the expressions for possibilities on WB8 and tell the form differences of the expressions.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T will ask Ss to look at the picture and think what he is doing. T will give HO3 (semi-controlled exercise) T will ask a question. What is he doing? (He is throwing the newspapers and books away, and looking at PC.) T will do number 2 of the exercise (HO3) with Ss. Work in pairs. T will tell Ss that they will make sentences and encourage them to use the grammar and vocabulary which they have learnt in today's lesson. ICQs: 1) Will you work alone? (no); 2) Will you write sentences?(yes); 3) Will you use your own words? (no. use vocabulary and grammar from today's lesson) T will give Ss HO4 to encourage Ss to use the grammar for the exercise. Give them 5 min.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will ask Ss to work in groups and discuss if they have the same ideas. (6 min) Monitor and try to list the errors. If time, delayed corrections.
