In this lesson,Ss will practice listening for gist and specific information in a song in the context of fame and fortun.First they will listen for gist to get the whole idea of the text and to get familiar with the content,then they will listen to fill the gaps which are the missing words of the lyrics of the song.In the next step,they will have a speaking activity as a feedback session in order to check their understanding of the text.This will be followed by clarifying unknown phrases and finally a productive task which is provided for practicing speaking for fluency.

Main Aims

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

a)Teacher will stick the picture of Hollywood on the board and will ask the Ss to discuss the two questions written on the board about Hollywood. b)T will tell the Ss that the picture is about a woman who goes to Hollywood.Then will ask the Ss to predict some ideas from the picture in the worksheet.The picture represents the story in the song and Ss should predict 2 stories in pairs.T will write some of the Ss redictions on WB

Listening for gist (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

At this stage,Ss will listen to the song for the first time.They will listen to get the gist of the song to figure out what is it about and if it matches to their predictions or not.They will also have a short discussion of what they got from listening to the song.T will ask appropriate ICQs to ensure that Ss are not going to fill the gaps at this stage.Ss will be told not to worry about any unknown words for now.

Listening for specific information (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss will listen to the text again and they will be asked to fill the gaps while listening.Then will check and compare their answers.Then will check it with WC to see how many answers they have got right.

Gap fill handout/Controlled activity (4-6 minutes) • To help the Ss get the right answers in case if they have had problems when listening.Also to review and practice some of the new lexis in the song context

Ss will be given gap fill handout.At this stage they are supposed to complete the lyrics of the song with the words given in the wrong order.They will then check their answers in pairs and then WC.T will monitor them sensitively in case of question or difficulties with meaning.

Post-Listening/Semi controlled (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will be asked to discuss in group of 3 ppl and answer the following questions. Where does the girl come from? Where has she been living? Did her plans work out? T will check if they know the meaning of work out,and provides appropriate CCqs

Clarifying the meaning (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the definition of unknown phrases in the text

T will write the following phrases on the board and will ask the Ss to read the text again and try to guess the meaning of those phrases in pairs.Then T will check the meaning with WC and if needed will correct or clarify the right meaning

Productive Task/Freer speaking activity (4-6 minutes) • To review and practice the useful language/to practice speaking for fluency

Ss will be asked to take turns in their new pairs and discuss the following questions about the woman.Then will check with WC Do you think the woman will be happy back in san jose? Do you feel sorry for her?
